With over 20 years of experience in editing and writing for both print and digital media, Jennifer is an avid gardener with more than 30 years of experience across 4 states and 3 countries.

Jennifer joined Lawnscanner in 2019 and previously spent nearly 15 years as an editor for The American Gardener magazine, published by the American Horticultural Society in Virginia. She began her career as an editorial intern and worked her way up to associate editor of the magazine and associate director of communications for the organization.

During her tenure, Jennifer contributed stories and edited 6 issues per year for the society’s award-winning publication. She also managed the AHS’s website, garden book award program, public relations, social media, and webinar program. Additionally, Jennifer assisted with book content, garden consulting, and fielding plant questions from the public. She enjoyed snapping plant photos around the society’s beautiful 25-acre headquarters at historic River Farm on the banks of the Potomac River.

Before her adventures with the American Horticultural Society, Jennifer spent two years as managing editor of a small lifestyle magazine. In her spare time, she contributed gardening content to various websites and print publications as a freelance writer.

Jennifer earned a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture with a minor in English, graduating summa cum laude. She also completed a graduate degree in Plant Pathology, fulfilling her aspirations of becoming a plant disease diagnostician. Her thesis research allowed her to experience both fieldwork and greenhouse experiments on a common disease of onions.
